Use of Epidural

There is wide variation across the province in use of epidural for pain relief in labour, from 18% to 50%. Epidural provides excellent pain relief but is associated with prolonged first and second stage of labour and instrumental delivery (forceps and vacuum). There is controversy about the relationship between use of epidural and rates of cesarean section.
