Use of Electronic Fetal Monitoring

The use of electronic fetal monitoring in healthy pregnancies has been consistently associated with increases in cesarean birth. Electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) is the most commonly used method of assessing fetal well-being in labour, however there are many “false positives,” that is diagnosis of fetal distress among healthy babies. Electronic fetal monitoring continues to be used consistently across the province.
