Cervical Dilation on Admission

As many as 40% of women given birth to their first babies are admitted to hospital before their labour is established and active. Admission to hospital before the cervix is dilated to 3 cm is associated with cesarean section, compared to women who arrive in active labour, at greater than 3cm cervical dilation.
